Even now, as large groups multiply, there are funeral homes that have served their communities for generations — with ties to neighbourhood associations and family temples, and attentive, personal care. Here we have gathered Sapporo's "old-fashioned funeral homes."
Said to have been founded in 1937 (Shōwa 12), this is one of Sapporo's oldest funeral homes. It runs its own 北海斎場 halls (Toyohira and Teine) and the 札幌中央斎場.

Founded in 1985 (Shōwa 60). Based in Kita Ward, it runs ほくそうホール新川 and 清田通. It also accommodates "friends' funerals" (yūjin-sō).

Sapporo City's public ceremony halls, where cremations take place. These are facilities for cremation rather than ceremony venues, by reservation only. Reception is 9:30–15:00.
Offering flowers (kyōka), condolence flowers (kenka) and pillow flowers (makurabana) each follow customs that vary by Buddhist sect and by region. Since whether flowers may be brought in — and any deadlines — differ from venue to venue, please check first with the funeral home or the bereaved family.
Before you rely on this page
The addresses, phone numbers and operating companies listed here reflect information as of our survey (2026) and are not guaranteed to be accurate. Halls may relocate, close or change names, and the actual venue on the day varies by family. Some entries, such as "札幌斎場 (札幌中央斎場)," are still being verified for name and operator. Before attending a service, sending flowers or making arrangements, always confirm with each funeral home's official information or with the bereaved family. Corrections and additions are always welcome.
